Last Sunday the government of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon
overwhelmingly approved a unilateral withdrawal of all the
Israeli settlements in Gaza and four in the northern West
Bank by a vote of 17-5.
Since the evening in 1968 when 1,000 people packed the
auditorium of Bais Yaakov of Borough Park for the sixth Siyum
HaShas, the excitement surrounding a Daf Yomi Siyum
celebration — both in the weeks prior to the respective
event and on the exhilarating day itself — has
triggered an increased interest in Daf Yomi learning and
Torah study in general. The Preparatory Committee working to coordinate the various
Shas siyum events held a series of meetings on Sunday
to finalize arrangements in advance of the event scheduled to
take place at Yad Eliyahu.
Public outrage is growing over the failure to pay religious
council workers, who say they have had enough of the promises
issued by the Prime Minister and Finance Ministry officials
to pay their salaries in the near future while not the
slightest progress has been made toward a solution.
MK Rabbi Yisroel Eichler (Agudas Yisroel) submitted a letter
of resignation to Knesset Chairman Reuven Rivlin on Monday
night based on the UTJ rotation agreement signed prior to the
last Knesset elections.
Thousands of seats have been reserved for the first English-
language Siyum HaShas of Daf Yomi in Jerusalem, which will be
held on Wednesday evening 21 Adar I (March 2, 2005). While
most of the participants live in Israel, there are many who
will be attending from abroad.
The annual Dinner of Yeshivas Ezras Torah that took place
recently was another timely reminder of the central place
that the Yeshiva has taken in the lives of many families
throughout the world.

a common goal but the individuals may be sharply divided in
their individual motives.
Remembrance of the Exodus in Yeshiva

Levenstein ztvk'l, whose yahrtzeit is 18 Adar. HaRav
Levenstein was Mashgiach in Mir Yeshiva in Europe and
Shanghai and later in Ponovezh Yeshiva, Bnei Brak.
