Defense Minister Barak: "I've Decided to Implement the Draft for Yeshiva Students"

A grim development regarding the upcoming elections: Defense Minister Barak, whose party is hovering around the threshold for winning a Knesset seat, has apparently decided to run his campaign for the next Knesset on the backs of yeshiva students. In a meeting of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Security Committee on Monday, which dealt with the law of army service for yeshiva students, he declared that he is determined to put the law into action.

"All Rabbonim Must Warn the Public to Be On Guard, Since it is Fire!"

The Kinneret Awaits the Winter Rains

A year ago the Kinneret was 213.46 meters below sea level, 1.11 meters below its level now. Generally the level continues to fall even after the first serious rains, until the accumulated precipitation brings strong flows.

In an incisive message delivered before a gathering of his Chassidim, the Vishnitzer Rebbe dwelt at length on the immutable principles in preserving the impressions of kedusha gained during the past month of Tishrei. He spoke of the duty of guarding the foundations of pure chinuch as preserved throughout Jewish history without outside intervention.

HaRav Meir Shapira, zt"l: Rov of Lublin and Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin
In honor of his yahrtzeit

One of the most notable and renowned of the last generation's luminaries was no doubt HaRav Meir Shapira. Whether the underlying cause is his introduction of the Daf Hayomi that he initiated to the Knessia Gedolah and which became accepted worldwide, or his holy yeshiva which became the springboard for roshei yeshiva and their yeshivos across the continents; it makes no difference. The fact is that the name HaRav Meir Shapira pulsates with life today and every day - almost 70 years after his passing.
