United Torah Jewry MKs Are Outstanding

By Eliezer Rauchberger

With the publication of the summaries of the legislative activity within the Knesset of its members during the past session, it emerges that members of the United Torah Jewry Party by Yated Ne'eman Staff (Degel HaTorah faction), Rabbis Moshe Gafni and Uri Maklev were among the most exceptional in every area.

The records of "The Open Knesset" summing up the activity of each of the Knesset members on the various fronts and levels show that Rabbis Gafni and Maklev, Degel representatives who served for a full Knesset, aside from deputy ministers whose parliamentary activity is legally limited and not reckoned alongside the others, were the most outstandingly active.

Rabbis Gafni and Maklev made it to the top ten in all six parameters connected to lawmaking, such as bill motion approved in the temporary reading — fourth and sixth place, and in bills presented and approved in the first reading — third and sixth place, and also in bills passed fully — fourth and ninth place.

The two were in the top five in participating in discussion in Knesset committees — second and fourth place, and also earned top places among MKs for average monthly attendance in the plenum — first and tenth place.

Thus, in the general and final computation, MKs Rabbi Gafni and Maklev received a score of 95 in all the parliamentary parameters, a top rating however you look at it for a small party within a 120 Knesset membership.
