Bus Bombing Victims Referred by Bituach Leumi to Private Tzedokoh Organizations
by Betzalel Kahn

In the first two days after last Tuesday's bus bombing attack in Jerusalem, families of those murdered and injured were told that Bituach Leumi does not provide cash and that they should seek immediate assistance from private tzedokoh organizations.

On Thursday the press published distressing accounts of aid requests by the victims' family members, including one of the survivors whose only suit was torn in the attack, another whose glasses were broken and others who needed to purchase basic necessities but had no money.

Bituach Leumi spokesmen said it does not distribute cash and that it is a bureaucratic institution like other state institutions, and therefore the families would have to be patient. Employees from Bituach Leumi's Rehabilitation Department are trying to make contact with all of the families of the victims to provide professional advice, support and guidance. Victims released from the hospital who have not yet been contacted by Bituach Leumi representatives can call Bituach Leumi at 02-6755480.
