"And For Your Daily Miracles"
by Anni Rephun Fruchter

Moshe and I were married in December 1946 and lived in Newark, New Jersey. Several years earlier, he had bought a chazoka [franchise] for shechita in a chicken market from a shochet who was retiring.

PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE
The Gifted Child in the Classroom

by R' Zvi Zobin

We all hope that our child or pupil will be blessed with many talents. However, talents can also cause negative effects in the classroom, especially if a gifted child is forced to comply with conditions customized for regular children.

LETTERS, FEEDBACK, EITZES

An Open Letter to All Good Women:

from an appreciative YATED reader

I recently underwent a major crisis and dramatic change of status from proud independence (I thought) to forced recipient of human kindness. After much reflection on the most pitiful human state, loneliness, I would like to share my observations on

SUCCESSFUL CHESSED or HOW TO BE A REAL FRIEND

Old Lace and New Beginnings
by Rosally Saltsman

A woman I know was married in 1970. Her dress was especially designed and hand-sewn for her. She inspired a Spanish style with a long train and a fitted bolero with long sleeves. The bodice was satin and the entire dress and headpiece were lovingly covered in Chantilly lace. It was beautiful and she looked beautiful in it.

Your Medical Questions Answered!
by Joseph B. Leibman, MD

Childhood Diseases and Vaccines

While vaccines have helped greatly in the prevention of disease, these still do exist. Jonas Salk made a major step in controlling a disease that caused paralysis, called poliomyelitis or polio for short. This virus liked water, and people who used public swimming pools were occasionally stricken. The most famous victim was President Roosevelt, who contracted the disease as an adult. Sabin discovered an oral vaccine and both are now given.

POET'S CORNER

The Boomerang
by Tzipora Zien

As one prepares some great rebuke
And hurries eagerly, to vault,<
One needs to take another look<
To ascertain if he's at fault.

Tradition states that when one sees<
Some misdeed in his fellow man<
It might suggest that one, indeed,<
Had similar intentions planned.

The mundane inclination hides<
Our own digressions from our ken.<
What's more, he'll secretly provide<
Impatience toward our fellow men.

This evil, plotting menace lurks<
Behind the scenes to irk our pride.<
He gets us miffed, his cunning works,<
And falling prey, we start to chide.

Now, if we'd look behind the scenes<
We'd not fall swiftly, blindly in.<
We'd see our faults and mind our beans,<
Repenting for related sins.

For only then will Heaven grant<
Assistance to correct our friend.<
Until we rout our sin, we can't<
Expect the world to make amends.

So stop to think! One pointer raised<
Will leave behind another three<
To indicate who misbehaves<
But hopes that no one else will see.
