Conference of Daf Hayomi Maggidei Shiur
by A. Cohen

Hundreds of maggidei shiur participated in a tremendous conference in honor of the Torah, led by the geonim HaRav Aharon Leib Steinman, HaRav Chaim Kanievsky, HaRav Gershon Edelstein, the Belzer, Sadigura and Nadvorna Rebbes and roshei yeshivos. Meoros HaDaf Hayomi organized the gathering to strengthen the holy work of the maggidei shiur who teach tens of thousand of Torah students throughout Israel.

The conference was held at the Heichalei Malchut hall in Bnei Brak at the initiative of HaRav Chaim Dovid Kovalski, founder and leader of Meoros HaDaf HaYomi, who saw fit to encourage the maggidei shiur and gather them for strengthening and unity in the presence of the leaders of our generation. The latter came to express their admiration and appreciation for those who set aside times for Torah, who continue the vision of HaRav Meir Shapira, zt"l, of Lublin.

Rav Mordechai Cohen opened and conducted the conference and was followed by HaRav Yaakov Shulevitz, chairman of Chavrusa, who described building a lesson and presenting it to Torah students.

At the start of the conference a letter from HaRav Y.S. Eliashiv was read by HaRav Y. Efrati, followed by a letter from HaRav Shmuel HaLevi Wosner read by HaRav S.A. Stern and the blessing of HaRav Michel Yehuda Lefkovitz read by his grandson, Rav Maklev.

Rav Kovalski delivered an emotional speech, mentioning that with their appearance the maggidei shiur represent the Torah students and thus it is as though tens of thousands were participating. Nonetheless, he appealed to increase the participation.

The audience greeted HaRav Aharon Leib Steinman with great emotion, as well as the Belzer Rebbe. Rav Steinman emphasized the merit of those who bring merit to the public such that the author of Chovos HaLevovos wrote that, "there is no level to compare to those who bring merit to the public." He further emphasized the merit of the maggidei shiur who sanctify Hashem's Name by their deeds and there's no doubt that this tremendous merit protects all Jews.

The Belzer Rebbe encouraged the audience and described the revolution caused by every daf of gemora in the learners' hearts and how each of them becomes stronger and connected to the Creator as the "light in the Torah returns them to the good" and this influences the learner and his family, all starting with a fixed shiur in gemara.

The rosh yeshiva of Zvihl, HaRav Michel Zilber, represented the maggidei shiur and emphasized their merit as they increase Torah among the masses and make the conversation about it into a habit.

At the end of the words of encouragement, Rav Kovalski mentioned ways to fit the shiur to the specific audience. His words joined the advice distributed in a special pamphlet for the participant, containing the replies of the leaders of the generation to the questions of the maggidei shiur.

Aside from the speakers, the conference saw the participation of HaRav Chizkiyohu Mishkovsky, spiritual director of Yeshiva Orchos Chaim, and HaRav Yisroel Hager, son of the Vishnitzer Rebbe.
