Newspaper Expose Reveals: Jerusalem Kashrus Sacrificed to Sharon's Political
Plans
by Betzalel Kahn
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and his son MK Omri Sharon gained
control over every focal point of power at the religious
authorities across the country by appointing Likud Center
members and other Likud members to head them. Probably most
of these appointed functionaries will follow Sharon into his
new party Kadima, and that is apparently one of the sources
of support that he is counting on.

Conversion Certificate from Special IDF Beis Din
By Betzalel Kahn
Twelve percent of the 5,000 non-Jewish soldiers currently

IDF officials estimate that rate will go up to 20 percent in

Agudath Israel of America's 83rd National
Convention
The Opening Day
There is always risk in change, but opportunity too. And to
judge from the response of the thousands who participated in
Agudath Israel's 83rd national convention this past Shabbos
and weekend, the new format instituted by the organization's
executive vice president, Rabbi Shmuel Bloom, proved itself
an opportunity.
New Construction in Har Nof
by Betzalel Kahn
A new project is slated for construction in Jerusalem's Har
Nof neighborhood for the first time in the past decade. The
project, which received blessings from Har Nof rabbonim, will
allow young couples to join the neighborhood's somewhat aging
populace. Har Nof was built over 20 years ago and today has
25,000 residents. The total absence of construction for the
past ten years has prevented young couples from moving to Har
Nof.

Vaada Lemaan HaShabbos Discusses Eruvin Problems and
Bolstering Shabbos in Jerusalem
by Betzalel Kahn
Vaadat Harabbonim Lemaan Kedushas HaShabbos held a meeting to
discuss ways of maintaining the sanctity of Shabbos in
Jerusalem, which the rabbonim referred to as the crown of the
Jewish people. They said that the city should be a paragon of
Shabbos observance, setting an example for other cities.
Shabbos observance also guarantees its security, for Chazal
said Jerusalem was destroyed because of Shabbos
desecration.

bless you are blessed" (Bereishis 27:28).
