Remembering a Master Mechanech
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

On the first day of Rosh Chodesh Teves, the first yahrtzeit of HaRav Zushe Waltner zt'l, many of his former talmidim will be gathering to bring merit and honor to his neshomoh. Meetings are to be held in three different countries.

The central yahrtzeit meeting in Eretz Yisroel will be held in Bnei Brak, where many talmidim from Morocco reside. The organizer is Rav Shlomo Farrache, a talmid and later colleague in the yeshiva in Tangier. A meeting with a siyum and divrei Torah will be held in New York in the home of his distinguished talmid Rabbi Yaakov Gold, attended by talmidim from both Sunderland yeshiva and elsewhere.

Gatherings will take place in a number of cities in France. There will be a meeting in Marseilles, organized by Rav Asher Anijer and one in Strasbourg organized by Rav Shimon Pinto, a talmid from Tangier. Talmidim will be gathering in Sarsel, a suburb of Paris and in Aix-les-Bains. Rav Tobol, a dayan in Lyons, is organizing a meeting there.

The impression of the Torah chinuch that Rav Waltner provided in Sunderland and Tangier and his talmidim's awareness of their huge spiritual debt to him, are strong enough prompting to bring them together, thirty or forty -- and in some cases even fifty -- years after they studied under him. They will be joined in sentiment by the multitudes of talmidim who will be marking the yahrtzeit in other locations across the globe.
