Palestinian Terrorism Agreement Announced
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

The meetings in Cairo between Yasser Arafat's Fatah and the outlawed Hamas ended with an agreement to cooperate in terror against Israel. According to early reports, the meetings were mediated by Egypt in an attempt to reach some sort of cease fire. Fatah planned to press Hamas in Cairo to stop carrying out terrorist attacks. Later reports said the talks were aimed at limiting attacks to just Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip, not inside Israel proper.

Is A Flu Pandemic on the Way?
by N. Katzin

The flu virus is making its way towards Israel and Europe. According to official forecasts, the flu season could arrive at any time. Years of experience show a flu outbreak is bound to strike this year, just as every year, leaving hundreds of thousands of people bedridden with high fever, body aches and other symptoms.

IDF and Housing Ministry officials are looking into expropriating land straddling the road between Kiryat Arba and Me'oras Hamachpela in Hebron to create a contiguous link between the two settlements.

Plans to Build Christian Quarters on Har Hazeisim Graves
by Betzalel Kahn

The Jerusalem Region Planning and Construction Committee is scheduled to discuss a plan to build a 15- room facility to lodge priests on the Mount of Olives at a site believed to contain Jewish graves from the First Temple Period. Activists from the Association for the Prevention of Grave Desecration are actively engaged in efforts to block the planned construction initiated by the Coptic Church.

Traffic Circles Expected to Turn Golda-Shamgar Road from Thoroughfare into City Street
by Betzalel Kahn

"Both the City of Jerusalem and the Ministry of Transportation agree the Shamgar-Golda Road, upon its completion, will be closed on Shabbatot and yomim tovim. The traffic circles made all along the road will render it a city street rather than a major thoroughfare," reported HaRav Aryeh Devir following a request by HaRav Yosef Sholom Eliashiv, shlita, to perform a detailed inquiry regarding the road between Ramot and Kiryat Tzanz currently under construction.

Expanding the Boundaries of Kedushoh in Marseille
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Although he never sought out his present position, HaRav Shmuel Kohen is truly the right man in the right place at the right time. Son of Rav Yaakov Kohen zt"l, one of the prime builders of Torah in postwar France, Rav Shmuel has for the past two-and-a- half years successfully taken the reins and continued the tremendous strides his father made in the southern French city of Marseille before his tragic death at age 65.

Mountain Dreams
by Danya Boksenboim and Rifca Goldberg

The idea of hosting a writers' conference in the holy city of Safed was a longtime dream that catapulted into fast forward. Our writing group meets weekly and we dreamed together of inviting other women from out of Safed to come and share together with us in our creative endeavors, to let our creative energies merge to generate more and more writings. Once the dream began to materialize, it took less time than we thought possible (although lots of work!) in coming true.
