Ode to the Ironing Board

by SW

O, to the wonderful ironing board
Of its versatile uses you'll never get bored,
First and foremost, as an ironing table
But a dozen more uses to serve it is able.

Just cover it up with disposable cloth
And lay out the plates of steaming broth,
Great for all guests, whatever their size
Your ironing board can descend, it can rise.

Picnic meal out on the lawn?
Ready to serve, twilight or dawn.
Someone in bed, feeling all sniffy?
Set up this table, right in a jiffy
With tissues and siddur, recorder and phone
With this handy table you're never alone.

Adjust to your height, collapse it with ease
Or slide around to wherever you please.
Laundry to sort?
Without much effort
Just pile side by side
It's area is wide.

Too many bills? Too many debtors?
Dump out the drawer of papers and letters.
Sforim to clean? Nowhere to pile?
This surface is perfect for the meanwhile.
(And not on the floor -- as you've done before!)

Dust rags and polish, pail and equip.
Will be in quick reach of your fingertip.
Once you've discovered you don't need to bend
You'll find further uses without any end.

Your ironing board may NEVER refold
Serving you well till you're both good and old!
