Hamas Leaders Targeted by IDF

As part of its offensive against Hamas, Israeli soldiers arrested Sheikh Muhammad Taha, 65, one of the co-founders of Hamas, as well as three of his sons, all of whom were deeply involved in terror activities. Three other Hamas terror criminals were detained at the same time, including one who was arrested while preparing a bomb. Israeli troops encountered heavy fire in the operation, including seven bombs that were set off.


Sharon Plans to Speed Conversion Process by Transferring Interior Ministry Portfolio

During a meeting with representatives of the United Jewish Communities, Keren Hayesod and the Jewish Agency last week Prime Ministry Ariel Sharon said he would work to shorten the conversion procedure "to ease the hardship of people waiting a long time to complete the process." Sharon said the change would become feasible once the Interior Ministry was taken out of the hands of a chareidi party, referring to Shas.

MK Gafni Selected for Chief Rabbi Committee

Although not included in the coalition deal and although the Likud tried to block his inclusion, MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni was selected among five MKs chosen during Monday's Knesset plenum to serve as members of a committee to appoint the new chief rabbis. The other representatives are Yair Peretz (Shas), Yitzhak Herzog (Labor), Danny Benlulu (Likud) and Shaul Yahalom (Mafdal).

Ezer Mizion and Yad Sarah were Hard at Work in Yerushalayim's Snowstorm

The largest snowstorm in Jerusalem in 50 years blanketed the city with a foot of snow and shut it down for two days. While children and their parents enjoyed an unexpected vacation, Ezer Mizion and Yad Sarah staff and volunteers worked round the clock to help the sick, the handicapped and the elderly -- and to make weddings happen on schedule.
