Crumbling Zimbabwe Regime Points Finger at Jews
by D. Saks, South Africa

The ongoing political and economic crisis in Zimbabwe, where Robert Mugabe's embattled ZANU-PF government is struggling to cling to power amidst mounting unemployment and food shortages, has led to an ominous surfacing of antisemitic conspiracy theories designed to find a scapegoat for the country's many ills. Rumors of an alleged Jewish plot to destroy the Zimbabwean economy were further fueled by a 3000- word "expose" which appeared in the Bulawayo Chronicle, a Government-supported daily.

OPINION & COMMENT

Utter Dedication to Hashem

One time, in the middle of a "normal" election campaign, one of the rabbonim who was quite close to HaRav Shach zt"l wanted to set up a separate political party, because he felt that he could thereby attract many voters who would otherwise not vote for a chareidi party. Because of his special relationship with HaRav Shach, all the politicians who were against that move appealed to the Rosh Yeshiva, fearing that the overall effect would not be good.

The Power of Tehillim
by N. Ber

Post-partum depression compounded by the difficulty of moving to a new neighborhood and ever-present money problems threatens Beila's mental stability.

"Only her bed was comforting to her and always greeted her with welcoming arms. There she lay, sunk in her own thoughts, in a state of complete apathy. The pillow would absorb her tears, and the blanket warmed and comforted her without any questions or demands."
