Meshech Chochmoh HaSholem: Shemos
by HaRav Shmuel Chaim Domb

"A few days before his petirah, Rabbenu Meir Simcha of Dvinsk (the Ohr Somayach) held up the manuscript of his sefer, Meshech Chochmoh, and said to all those around him: `I want you all to know something. I did not come to this world because of the Ohr Somayach; the world could have continued to exist without it. What the world needs now is the Meshech Chochmoh." We read this in the introduction to Emes LiYaakov by HaRav Yaakov Kamenetsky, zt"l.

The Meshech Chochmoh on the Torah that HaRav Meir Simcha treasured more than his Ohr Somayach on the Rambam shows that the author's brilliance in agaddo was equal to that in halochoh. This momentous work contains explanations, interpretations, and drush of the Torah along with incredible Talmudic expertise.

Despite its importance, those who devote time to study of the Meshech Chochmoh have been few. It is written very concisely, and without making serious attempts it is impossible to grasp the deep ideas that the author wished to convey. It is definitely not a sefer intended for someone looking for a fast, easy way to find a fascinating vort on parshas hashavua.

This new edition of HaRav Shmuel Chaim Domb makes the Meshech Chochmoh more accessible. He explains the sefer's difficult-to-understand passages; deciphers the references referred to by the author when mentioning "kadmonim" or a "sefer atik;" cites newly found sections of the Meshech Chochmoh from manuscripts; records Chazal's complete statements mentioned only in part by the author; notes all references; adds the full text of the Chumash with Rashi and Onkeles and includes an index of references and topics. In a section entitled "Yad HaChochmoh" he copies the remarks of acharonim such as the Dvar Avrohom, the Even HaEzel, the Beis Yisroel, Maran HaRav Shach, shlita, HaRav Chaim Kanievsky and others, that are related to the Meshech Chochmoh.

With this volume on Shemos we can now, boruch Hashem, delight in the deep peirushim of the Meshech Chochmoh and benefit from a better understanding of yetzias Mitzrayim, the mishkan, the bigdei kehunoh and all the other subjects in this Chumash.
