HaRav Alter Meir Wilmovsky, zt"l
by Betzalel Kahn

A mournful throng accompanied HaRav Alter Meir Wilmovsky, zt"l, one of Jerusalem's finest avreichim, on his last earthy journey last week. He was 27 years old at the time of his petirah.

Reb Alter Meir Wilmovsky, who was born on 7 Teves, 5734, is the son of HaRav Dovid Wilmovsky, a rosh yeshiva of Yad Aharon. His mother is the daughter of HaRav Betzalel Zolty zt"l, former chief rabbi of Jerusalem. Growing up in such a home, he acquired a deep love of Torah, and all who knew him noted his unique refinement and outstanding character traits.

As a youth, he studied in Beis Matisyahu, where he rapidly progressed in Torah and yir'oh. All his mentors noted his straightforward approach to Torah study, saying that he was the personification of the dictum, "hevei lomeid mikol odom" which was expressed through his way of delighting in every explanation offered by his fellow students. He went on to study in Yeshivas Hevron, where he was one of the most outstanding students.

Upon his marriage to the daughter of HaRav Eliyahu Merel, a ram in Ohr Somayach, he continued to study in Beis Medrash liTorah, the Hevron Kollel, with remarkable hasmodoh, even during the period of his debilitating illness.

Hespedim were delivered by HaRav Yehoshua Eichenstein, the rosh yeshiva of Yad Aharon; the niftar's father-in- law, HaRav Eliyahu Merel; HaRav Dovid Cohen, one of the roshei yeshiva of Hevron; HaRav Y. Hirshler, a ram in Beis Matisyahu; the niftar's uncle, HaRav Aryeh Zolty; HaRav Naftali Chodosh, rosh kollel; and his father, HaRav Dovid Wilmovsky. The maspidim all dwelled upon his unique refinement and geniality, his straightforward manner of learning, and his dedication to Torah.

HaRav Alter Meir Wilmovsky was buried on Har Hamenuchos. He is survived by his wife and two children.
