Parsha With Your Youngster
by Elisheva L. Nadler

Knowledge of parsha themes is a very relevant issue in the education of our children, not only as a training in mitzvos, but also as an avenue into family discussions.

Additional Calendar Information:

Molad: Sunday, Jan. 17, 9:52

The earliest time of Kiddush Levonoh - Shevat

The time of Kiddush Levonoh everywhere in the world begins when it is Wednesday, 9:42 A.M., 3 Shevat (Jan. 20). The actual time in most of the world is therefore from the beginning of the night, the eve of 4 Shevat. People living in the extreme western countries can make a brocho on the moon already on Tuesday night, the eve of 3 Shevat, according to the difference in time zones in comparison to Eretz Yisroel.

The astronomical new moon follows the molad this month by approximately eight and a quarter hours, and is at 5:46 P.M. Moreover, during the three days after the molad when the moon approaches its apogee (its highest point) and advances slowly the influence of the astronomical new moon's late appearance is intensified. This information is significant for those who act according to the Chazon Ish and do not make a brocho on the moon until it is big and high in the sky.
