Substantial Rise in Enrollment at Chareidi Schools in Petach Tikva

By Yechiel Sever

The opening of the 5769 school year was a great success at all Torah-based institutions in Petach Tikva. Enrollment has increased 10 percent to 12,000 students, including 3,000 at the outreach schools alone. New kindergartens, day-care centers and infant-care centers have also been opened for the bnei Torah community and working mothers.

The city boasts a total of 100 kindergartens, 20 talmudei Torah and girls' schools, 12 yeshivas — both yeshivos ketanos and yeshivos gedolos — and 50 kollelim with 1,700 avreichim.

The new day-care centers and infant-care centers, located in the city center and run by Rabbi Eliyahu Bruchi, feature modern equipment and operate until 4:00 p.m.

During a comprehensive tour of the city's educational institutions City Councilman Rabbi Yisroel Friedman and Rabbi Menachem Schwartz, who heads the Department for Chareidi Education, noted the achievements made and the funding secured for the coming school year, as well as the dynamic development at the various institutions.

A survey conducted by the Education Department reveals that during the past nine years chareidi educational institutions have grown by 54 percent while outreach schools have grown by 30 percent through the efforts of Lev L'Achim under Rabbi Tzvi Berger.
