A mikveh was recently found under the Kosel Plaza in a dig conducted by the Israel Antiquities Authority and the Western Wall Heritage Foundation. It is carved out of the bedrock and it is dated to the later part of the Second Beis Hamikdash.
Overall, it is 3.05 meters long, 1.35 meters wide and 1.85 meters high. Its walls are plastered. At its southern end are four steps to enter the mikveh.
The stratum in which it was found also includes ash, as well as pottery and stone vessels that were used by Jews because of the purity. The pottery dates from the final years of the Second Beis Hamikdash. Other mikvo'os were also found in the area.
