Jews of Rada Expected to Leave Yemen by Pesach

With assistance by the US government and Jewish organizations
in the US, 300 Jews living in Rada, Yemen are scheduled to
emigrate by Pesach. Despite efforts by the Jewish Agency to
persuade them to move to Israel, one-third have opted to
immigrate to the US, which has caused considerable
embarrassment to aliyah officials in Israel.

Thousands of Bnei Brak residents, including roshei
yeshivos, rabbonim and dayonim as well as hundreds
of students and former students from Yeshivas Daroma took
part in the levaya on Friday, Erev Shabbos Veyakhel-
Pikudei, for HaRav Moshe Shlomo Halevi Fisch zt"l, the
founder and rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Daroma for
bochurim from Latin America. He passed away Thursday
night 24 Adar at the age of 71.

Thousands Have Their Tefillin Checked; Significant
Percentage Found Posul

Following the publication of remarks in a letter by Maran
HaRav Eliashiv shlita, reading, "All yirei
Shomayim who are uncertain whether their tefillin
[are constructed] in accordance with halacha, should have
them checked to ensure [the four head compartments] are
separate and distinct," thousands have had their tefillin
checked, including talmidei chachomim who lay high-
quality tefillin crafted by top tefillin makers.
Hundreds Use Kosher Transportation Initiative Connecting
Jerusalem Neighborhoods to Kosel

Hundreds of chareidim have used a kosher transportation
system operated privately along the Number 2 bus route in
Jerusalem. The buses depart every half hour, on the half
hour, from Har Nof and from the City of David parking lot
near the Kosel Maarovi.
Matzoh Exports Expected to Decrease

Economists at the Export Institute estimate matzoh exports
will drop 5-10 percent in 2009 following a sharp rise in 2008
— a total of $12 million, representing a 31-percent
increase over the previous year, says Export Institute
Director Avi Chafetz.
Mekorot to Use Underground Water to Supply Bnei Brak and
Jerusalem Corridor During Pesach

In response to a letter from MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni, Mekorot
CEO Ido Rosilio announced that the Jerusalem Corridor and
Bnei Brak would be supplied with well water, while Haifa
would be supplied with well water and reservoir water.
Increase in Potato Consumption Before Pesach

During the two weeks preceding Pesach, potato consumption
rises by 55 percent compared to the rest of the year,
according to a market survey conducted by Avshalom, one of
the leading potato retailers in the country. Israelis buy
some 16,000 tons of potatoes before Pesach.
