Secular Coalition Formed at Jerusalem City Council

By Yechiel Sever

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat formed a preliminary coalition among city council members, allowing him to assume his post this week. The coalition's first work meeting dealt with preparing to enter the city council and getting to know the various parties on the council.

The preliminary coalition includes 17 councilmen from various parties, forming a majority of the 31 councilmen. Five coalition members will be appointed deputy mayor.

"In the coming days I will continue efforts to expand the coalition, making it wall-to-wall, reflecting all of the parties elected to serve on the city council," said Barkat.

The coalition includes Barkat's party, Yerushalayim Tatzliach, NRP-Habayit Hayehudi, led by David Hadri, Meretz, led by Papa Alalo, Hitorerut, led by Ofer Berkovich, Yerushalayim Beiteinu, led by Masha Novikov, and Paz, led by Yael Entebbe.
