Request to Set Up Police Station in Meron

By Yechiel Sever

United Torah Judaism activists are making concerted efforts to bring about the setup of a police station at the site of Kever Rashbi in Meron and are demanding police act to ward off the disorderly toughs who have been desecrating the site through their recent unacceptable conduct.

MK Rabbi Uri Maklev contacted the Police Commander following a series of violent incidents at the site, saying when he visited the area of the gravesite recently he saw people roaming freely throughout the area and acting violently, showing no respect for the sanctity of the site or many of the people who come to pray there.

MK Rabbi Uri Maklev asked the police itself to set up a permanent presence near the gravesite. UTJ members note the Committee of Five, which was started with the support of gedolei Yisroel, is not intended to ensure visitor safety. The Committee of Five is charged with the task of improving and refurbishing the site and upholding the sanctity of the site.
