French Jewish Community Opposes Honoring Israeli Writers
in Paris

Inviting Israeli writers as the guests of honor at book fairs
in Paris and Turin, Italy, is causing a stir in left-wing
circles and in the French Jewish community, but for different
reasons. Religious and traditional Jews, who comprise the
majority of the active Jewish community in France today, are
concerned over the ignoble representation of Judaism in
secular Israeli literature.
Chinuch Atzmai School in Or Yehuda Spared Third
Electricity Cutoff

Following several days of concerted efforts, the threat of
cutting off the electricity for the third time was removed at
Michtav L'Eliyahu, a Chinuch Atzmai school in Or Yehuda,
after the Dessler family, the descendants of HaRav Eliyohu
Dessler zt"l, responded to a request by Rabbi Avrohom
Yosef Lazerson, one of the heads of Chinuch Atzmai, to pay
the school's electricity bill.
Staunch Campaign to Prevent Food Stores from Opening on
Shabbos

"The terrible breach effected by opening stores on Shabbos
Kodesh, thereby desecrating and trampling over Shabbos,
cannot and should not be overlooked. We have decided to wage
a determined battle using all the means at our disposal,"
declared Vaadas HaRabbonim Lemaan Kedushas HaShabbos this
week.
