Gedolei Torah, roshei yeshivos, admorim, rabbonim and
public figures led a large funeral for the wife of Rabbi
Menachem Porush ylct"a one of the veteran heads of
Agudas Yisroel, who returned her soul to her Maker at the
age of 87.
The deceased was born in 5679 (1919) in the Old City of
Jerusalem to R' Pinchos Eliezer Paksher, a prominent Karlin-
Stolin chossid. In her home she was instilled with
simple emunoh, ahavas Torah and yiras
Shomayim.
In 5698 (1938) she married R' Yehoshua Leib Levy z"l,
a prominent citizen of Jerusalem who passed away three years
later, leaving her a young widow with two children, whom she
continued to raise and educate for decades, living in
poverty in her parents' home.
Years later she married Rabbi Menachem Porush, loyally
remaining at his side in support of his efforts to promote
chareidi causes. For decades she ran her home with feminine
wisdom and acumen, undertaking the burden of tending to the
children and domestic needs in order to allow her husband to
dedicate himself to Agudas Yisroel affairs.
During his extended trips in the US decades ago to raise
money for Chinuch Atzmai, HaRav Aharon Kotler zt"l
sent a letter to the her suggesting she move to the US for a
time, promising to ensure that her children received a
proper Torah education since her husband was wholly occupied
by public affairs. But she would not hear of leaving Eretz
Yisroel and said she hoped, besiyata deShmaya, that
she would be able to see to their education on her own.
Mrs. Porush was very sick for the past three years and her
family members took care of her devotedly. Recently she had
to be hospitalized at Shaarei Tzedek in Jerusalem and passed
away at chatzos on Leil Shabbos Parshas Bolok.
She had the merit to raise doros yeshorim, including
her son Rav Mendel Levy, her daughter who is married to
HaRav Lippa Shechter, and her sons, HaRav Naftoli Tzvi
Porush, board chairman of Degel Yerushalayim and MK Rabbi
Meir Porush, as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren
and great-great-grandchildren carrying on the legacy of
their forefathers.
Before the levaya set out from the Shamgar Funeral
Center, Rabbi Menachem Porush parted from his wife with
bitter sobbing, recalling a lifetime of activities, deeds
and dedication to Torah and Judaism and her efforts to
educate her children. She was then eulogized by HaRav Lippa
Shechter and her sons, HaRav Naftoli Tzvi Porush and Rabbi
Meir Porush. Mrs. Brochoh Porush o"h was buried in
the family chelkoh at Har Hamenuchos Cemetery.
