NIS 19 Million Allocated for Kosel Area Improvements
by Betzalel Kahn

The government has allocated NIS 19 million ($4.3 million) to continue making improvements on the various access routes to the Kosel Maarovi as well as security arrangements in the area.

According to the government decision the funding will be divided as follows: NIS 2 million from the Transportation Ministry, NIS 2 million from the Housing Ministry, NIS 3 million from the Israel Lands Administration, NIS 4 million from the Tourism Ministry, NIS 2 million from the Welfare Ministry, NIS 2 million from the Internal Security Ministry, NIS 2 million from the Defense Ministry and NIS 2 million from the Education Ministry.

This funding will be used to repair hazards in the Western Wall Plaza and to improve security, faulty access routes, lack of overhead shelter for winter and summer, faulty lighting and electrical problems, the access road, the lack of signs to provide directions and explanations, development work, and more.

The government decision stated that in the past as well, the government decided to earmark funding for improvements to the Western Wall Plaza, but though these projects were carried out much work remained to be done in the area to help accommodate the many visitors who come to pray there.
