by Yated Ne'eman Staff

The number of traffic accidents in Bnei Brak was down significantly in the first half of 2004, according to a report prepared by Superintendent Eitan Paamon of the Traffic Department of Tel Aviv District Police.

The report notes a general decline in the number of traffic accidents in the district, in contrast to the situation nationwide. The number of accidents was down from 2,763 between January and June of 2003 to 2,630 during the same period this year, while the number of people hurt in traffic accidents was down from 4,348 to 3,830.

In addition to the reduction in the number of accidents throughout the district, the report notes a substantial reduction in the number of serious accidents in Bnei Brak, Tel Aviv and Holon. In Bnei Brak, besiyata deShmaya, the number of accidents dropped from 44 in 2003 to 30 in 2004. The number of fatal accidents remained the same, with two each year, although they took place on the intercity road passing through the city. Serious accidents fell from nine to zero while the number of light accidents went from 33 to 28.

Accidents involving bicycles rose from six to ten in the light-accident category, while the number of serious accidents went from one to zero. The number of fatal accidents involving bike riders remained zero.
