The Israeli-grown onions continue to be problematic, even though the peel is starting to grow up over the top of the layers. For now, your best bet is the Gush Katif onions, which do not have to be checked at all, or the imported onions, whose first and outside-of-the-second layers should be washed or checked. Regular Israeli-grown onions must still be cleaned or checked layer by layer.
