New Initiatives for Maternity Care in London
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

The Hansy Josovic Maternity Trust (HJMT) is happy to announce that Mrs. Yael White has been appointed as its new Maternity Development Worker. This post was created by Mrs. Rachel Klein to further her longstanding involvement in the care of mothers and babies, with funding from SureStart and SRB6 as part of their ongoing commitment to improving services for the community.

Mrs. White will be working closely with the North London kehilla and with hospital and other health personnel in seeking to increase the availability of maternity advocacy provision and improve postnatal core.

Currently there are two shomer Shabbos advocates available at the Homerton Hospital: Mrs. M. Rabinovitz and Mrs. S. Friedman. They can be contacted either at the advocacy office on 0208 510 7179, where they will always try to respond to messages as quickly as possible; or they can be seen at the Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning antenatal clinic. The aim is to work towards providing a similar service at other hospitals chosen by the kehilla.

Mrs. White is eager to hear from ladies in the community who would like to share with her any recent maternity experiences (whether positive or negative). This will enable her to get a clearer picture of what specific areas ladies would like to see improved. The number to reach her on or to leave a message is 0208 510 6503; or messages can be left with Mrs. R. Klein on 0208 806 4490. Any call will of course be treated in the strictest confidence.
