Call to Principals and Parents to Keep Pictures and Albums Out of Schools
by A. Cohen

Rabbonim and educators have issued calls to principals, teachers and parents to prevent talmidim from bringing pictures of rabbonim and the associated albums to their respective talmudei Torah due to the spiritual corruption and decline manifested among children in recent years as a consequence of this practice.

Citing directives from HaRav Shmuel Wosner and HaRav Nissim Karelitz, a number of rabbonim and educators asked Yated Ne'eman to alert the public to the serious problems associated with collecting pictures of rabbonim.

Principals say that although it may appear that the practice offers certain educational benefits, their experience shows that the children show no real interest in the pictures themselves, but instead are concerned only with their monetary "value," which is based on availability among fellow collectors.

Involvement in picture trading can lead to bitul Torah, loss of interest in studies, large amounts of wasted money, deceitfulness and developing a penchant for commercial enterprise at a tender age, they warn.
