"Reaching Out-Reaching In": Jewel Seminar
by M. Heimowitz

With the situation in Eretz Yisroel and the rest of the world so uncertain, most Torah-observant women are aware of their responsibility to improve themselves as individuals and Klal Yisroel as a whole. However, many wonder how to implement meaningful, constructive changes in themselves and others.

An upcoming evening seminar entitled, "Is It Up to Us? Reaching Out -- Reaching In" aims to help English-speaking women translate the messages Hashem is sending into genuine spiritual growth. The seminar, sponsored by Jewel-Aish HaTorah/EYAHT Women's Organization, will be held motzei Shabbos Parshas Vayechi, December 29, at the Ramat Tamir Round Hall in Jerusalem.

HaRav Yitzchok Berkowitz, menahel ruchani of Yeshivas Aish HaTorah, will discuss the halachic ramifications of kiruv rechokim. Seminar participants will then hear insights on interpersonal relationships and outreach from Rebbetzin Sima Spetner, a noted expert in chinuch habonim.

The motzei Shabbos event marks the culmination of a ten- week-long kiruv-training seminar. For the first time, Jewel offered Torah-observant women the opportunity to learn practical ways to be mekarev others and to increase their own appreciation of Jewish heritage.

Kiruv-training participants ranged in age from 20 to 60 and came from all parts of Jerusalem as well as Maalei Amos, Meitzad, and Ramat Beit Shemesh. They received inspiration and practical advice from noted kiruv experts HaRav Yitzchok Berkowitz, Rav Motty Berger, and Rebbetzin Denah Weinberg.

In addition to providing effective kiruv techniques and an arsenal of answers to commonly-asked questions, the weekly lecture series fostered a deeper awareness of what being Jewish means and a heightened confidence in one's ability to reach out to others.

The motzei Shabbos seminar was organized by seminar participants as a way of sharing inspiration with the English- speaking public. It will also serve as a precursor to a projected spring series of kiruv-training lectures for women who are interested in becoming more involved in outreach.

The seminar begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is 25 NIS. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, please contact Jewel at (02) 532-1796.
