Israel has $13 Billion Kosher Food Market
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Israel's market for kosher food is over $13 billion, with imports accounting for about $2 billion, according to a report by the Foreign Agriculture Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The USDA report noted that the U.S. holds about 30 percent of the import share, with a variety of value-added processed food products from the U.S. increasing their sales.

Over 70 percent of Israel's Jewish population of over 5 million maintains some degree of kosher observance in the home. The report said that "although some non-kosher products are produced in Israel and some are imported, their marketing channels are limited and their volume is estimated to be less than 5 percent of the total market, and even a smaller percentage of imports."
