Expansion of Manchester Kollel
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Almost a zman has elapsed since the opening of the Kollel Heichal HaTorah in Manchester under the leadership of Rabbi Michoel Ber Weissmandl, aimed at aspiring yungerleit, who want to excel in Torah and yiras Shomayim. In the short time of its existence, the Kollel has earned a reputation for its high level of hasmodoh, iyun, and ameilus baTorah, beyond all expectations.

The Manchester community, with its various mosdos HaTorah and ample opportunities for spiritual growth, has become an attractive location for avreichim over the last decade. Due to a dearth of space in the existing kollelim, a need was felt for the opening of this kollel. It was the enthusiasm and foresight of a number of choshuve members of the kehilla -- who saw the great importance of this matter -- that enabled Kollel Heichal HaTorah to come into existence.

Rabbi Michoel Ber Weissmandl, the rosh hakollel, has been a member of the Manchester Kollel, Kollel HaRabbonim, for the past 15 years and he assumed this new and challenging position with the enthusiastic backing of his rosh kollel, Rabbi B.Z. Kaufman, one of Europe's foremost senior marbitzei Torah. Originating from the U.S. he is an alumnus of Manchester, Lakewood, and Mir Yeshivos and he enjoyed a very close relationship with the late Manchester Rosh Yeshiva, HaRav Yehuda Zev Segal, zt"l. Besides his responsibilities as rosh hakollel, he also bears the financial responsibility for the mosad.

For the coming Elul zman, additional avreichim will be joining, iy"H, the Kollel, thus further enhancing this high caliber Kollel.
