Calling All South Africans

To the Editor:

This is a message to all South Africans who lived in the small country communities. Since coming to Israel seven years ago I have been writing stories about my days in these places. They have been well received. Many readers have called me to say that they paint a picture that was unknown to them. It occurred to me that these communities have disappeared and only our memories remain. By collecting these memories, the history of these unique communities could be preserved.

Two Israeli publishers have expressed an interest in publishing a volume of stories, fiction and nonfiction, about the Jews in the dorfs of South Africa. If you have a story to tell, please send it to me. Hopefully, the best will be selected and published. Before publishing I will let you know if your contribution has been accepted and let you know what the publisher has offered, so that you can accept or reject the offer. Previous anthologies that I have been involved with generally give successful contributors a free copy of the book and a small sum of money.

Yours sincerely
