Otzar Beis Din Grape Juice Distributed
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

Very soon, the filling of the bottles of the first batch of grape juice of the Otzar Beis Din of HaRav Nissim Karelitz will be completed. The distribution will begin very shortly at depots all over the country, enabling mitzvah observant Jews everywhere to merit to partake of produce which is sanctified with kedushas shevi'is.

This grape juice, which has kedushas shevi'is, has been prepared from the grapes of private settlements and private Torah observant grape-growers from the following settlements: Mevo Choron, Gamzu, Shal'avim, Yesodot, Mattisyahu, Kochav Hashachar, Kirat Arba, Susia and others.

A few weeks ago production of this grape juice began in the Carmel Mizrachi wineries. HaRav Karelitz and HaRav Pinchas Schreiber of the beis din were present at the receipt of the shipments of the grapes at the winery, and continued to examine every step of the production, making sure that all of the requirements of the beis din, in respect to the production of the grape juice -- its pasteurizing, its bottling and the preservation of the kedusha of the fruit -- were carefully fulfilled. HaRav Avrohom Yeshaya Yanovsky, the rav of Agudas Hakormim (Carmel Mizrachi) was also present on that occasion, as were Mr. Avraham ben Moshe, the general director of the Carmel Mizrachi, and Rav Eliezer Greenbaum who was appointed by the beis din to supervise the manufacturing of the grape juice made from the grapes of Otzar Beis Din.

In recent weeks manufacturing of the grape juice has been continuing in the winery. As in previous years, only high quality grape juice is being produced. At a later date, high quality wines will also be manufactured. Also present at the deliberations between the beis din and the Carmel Mizrachi Wineries were: HaRav Yosef Efrati, HaRav Yehuda Sillman and HaRav Aryeh Dvir, all of whom examined the machinery and all of the stages of the production from the vintage to the pasteurizing, to the transfer of the juice by means of pipes, and to the bottling. They were also apprised of the nature of the raw materials used in the production. With all of this information at hand, the beis din then discussed and reviewed every detail of the process, and issued clear directives regarding the preparations for the production, the kashering of the pipes, the usage of new vessels and the entire process of establishing a separate manufacturing line.

The beis din placed Rav Eliezer Greenbaum in charge of supervising all aspects of the production of the wine and the grape juice of the Otzar Beis Din. The members of the beis din also personally supervise the activities in the winery and visit it.

A number of months ago, maranan verabonon issued an urgent call to the community to rally to the aid of the shmittah observing farmers, and to purchase wine and grape juice manufactured by the agents of the beis din and under its supervision. The wine and grape juice will be distributed at special depots, according to the instructions of the beis din. At this point, a maximum of five cartons per family will be made available, so that everyone will be able to merit to partake of this produce at a price that only covers the basic expenses in producing the juice. Normally, these products are much more expensive.

In time for Succos, the beis din will distribute esrogim from the orchards of the Otzar Beis Din.
