Rabbi Ravitz -- Deputy Education Minister
by E. Rauchberger

This past Monday (22 Nisan), MK Rabbi Avrohom Ravitz was appointed Deputy Education Minister. The appointment was finalized after the coordinator between the government and the Knesset, Dani Noach, announced it in the Knesset plenum, at a special recess session.

According to the law, such appointments take effect immediately after they are announced in the Knesset plenum. As a result, Rabbi Ravitz began to officiate this Monday.

At the end of the announcement, several MKs approached Rabbi Ravitz and wished him success in his new position. Rabbi Ravitz thanked his well-wishers and said that he hopes to realize his many plans to benefit of the chareidi sector and the chareidi educational system, as well as his plans to expand the Jewish studies programs in the overall educational system.

At that meeting, the chairman of the Knesset Committee Yossi Katz announced that Rabbi Moshe Gafni would replace Rabbi Yaakov Litzman as UTJ's representative in the Internal Affairs Committee. After his announcement, the Knesset Committee met and unanimously approved a measure recommending that the Internal Affairs Committee elect Rabbi Moshe Gafni chairman of the committee. The committee will soon meet in order to conduct the election formally.

In the forthcoming days, the Knesset members will appoint Rabbi Meir Porush as Deputy Housing Minister, and Rabbi Yaakov Litzman to the powerful position of chairman of the Finance Committee. With that, the series of appointments determined in the coalition agreement between UTJ and Likud will be complete.
