Tenet Talks Off to Slow Start

Palestinian and Israeli security officials met with CIA Director George Tenet at Jerusalem's King David Hotel Monday night to discuss their responses to his cease-fire proposal, but the gaps between the sides remain wide. Tenet met with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Israeli security officials Monday afternoon.

Jaffee Center: Israel's Strategic Edge Prevents War

"The strategic balance in the Middle East is clearly in Israel's favor. This positive strategic balance prevents the struggle with the Palestinians from deteriorating into a regional war," according to Professor Shai Feldman, head of the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies of Tel Aviv University. Preparations for Monument on HaRav Yisroel Salanter's Grave Underway

A monument on the grave of Maran HaRav Yisroel Salanter, ztk"l, will be put up in two months, at the beginning of bein hazmanim. Preparations for this important historic event are presently underway. It will be attended by prominent delegations from the Torah worlds of Eretz Yisroel, Europe and the United States.

Israel Shipping Offices In Johannesburg Hit By Bomb Attack

In what is believed to have been a politically motivated attack, the Johannesburg offices of the Israeli National shipping company, Zim Shipping, were severely damaged in a petrol bomb attack carried out in the early hours of Shabbos Behaalosecha. Three petrol bombs were thrown into the offices of Polaris Shipping, the representative office of Zim Shipping in South Africa.

Infant Dies after Palestinian Stoning

Five-month-old Yehuda Chaim Shoham, who was mortally wounded in the head by a stone thrown by Palestinians at his parents' car last Tuesday night, died Monday afternoon in Jerusalem's Hadassah-University Hospital, Ein Kerem. He was buried in Shilo Monday night, after thousands gathered outside the Prime Minister's Office to pay their respects to the bereaved family and vent their pain and anger at the continued need to bury victims of terror attacks.

Zurich police have detained a possible suspect in the murder of 71-year-old HaRav Avrohom Yehoshua Greenbaum Hy"d, on Thursday night, 17 Sivan. HaRav Greenbaum was the head of the Beis Mordechai kollel in Bnei Brak and one of the most prominent talmidim of the Ponevezh and Novardok yeshivos. He was shot to death on his way to a synagogue in a Jewish neighborhood in Zurich.

Rabbi Yonason Abraham of Australia to Become Dayan in London

Arson in Petach Tikvah: Heavy Damage to Chanichei Hayeshivos Synagogue

Anonymous vandals set fire to the old Chanichei Hayeshivos synagogue on 2 Arlozorov Street in Petach Tikvah on motzei Shabbos parshas Bamidbar. Many sifrei Torah were destroyed by fire as a result of the blaze, and heavy damage was caused to the adjacent succah.

We are happy to hear that there has been an increase in the number of the farmers, gibborei koach, who have accepted upon themselves to keep the Shevi'is laws pertaining to fruits and specifically vineyards, because shomrei Shevi'is have always needed exceptional self restraint to refrain from all pruning in the seventh year.

Metunah Continues War on Traffic Accidents

Metunah, the organization for road safety, has lodged an official complaint with the Israel Police for causing death by negligence. The complaint was issued against the fifteen members of Knesset who supported the bill for lowering the minimum driving age. Metunah claims that the MKs knew that the law was liable to cause people's deaths, due to the careless, illegal driving patterns unusually common among young people.
