Coalition Negotiations With UTJ Continue
by G. Lazar

On Monday night (18 Adar), UTJ's representatives in the Knesset were still involved in coalition negotiations regarding the party's joining the unity government. They were following the guidelines of maranan verabonon, the gedolei haTorah.

Though the government took office last week, UTJ has still not managed to reach an agreement to join. The talks focused on clarifying the extent of the authority offered to the deputy ministers that are being offered to UTJ in the Religious Affairs, the Education and the Housing Ministries.

Until now, there has been no breakthrough which will enable UTJ to accept the positions offered it, since UTJ demands that the deputies have broad responsibilities which will enable them to assist the bnei Torah sector in particular and the chareidi sector in general.

Chareidi public figures expressed the hope that the Likud would display creativity and initiative in order to conclude the negotiations in a favorable manner which will satisfy all sides.
