The Pediatrics Department of Bnei Brak's Ma'ayenei Hayeshua Hospital
opened its doors last week. Professor Yitzchok Verseno of the Schneider
Children's Hospital, a top ranking pediatrician of worldwide repute,
is head of the department. He is joined by four senior doctors, Drs.
Chana Ofir, Ehud Lazar, Yerach Stolratz and Dario Pris, as well as
a dedicated staff of pediatric nurses.
A Children's Emergency ward functions in conjunction with the new
department. Staffed by top ranking pediatricians, it will cater to
the city's residents twenty-four hours a day.
More than a million-and-half dollars have been invested in acquisition
of the most advanced medical equipment in the pediatrics field for
the new department.
The hospital directors have signed an agreement with the Schneider
Children's Hospital in Petach Tikvah, wherein every case requiring
special treatment or testing unavailable at Ma'ayenei Hayeshua will
be referred to Schneider. Part of the medical staff of Ma'ayenei Hayeshua's
Pediatrics Department also works at Schneider, and the close affiliation
with that hospital will find expression on a daily, ongoing basis.
The opening of this pediatrics department is warmly acclaimed by rabbonim
as well as people in the chinuch field, who noted the urgent
need to open such a hospital in Bnei Brak. They noted that the hospitalization
of a chareidi child in a general hospital results in his physical
healing, but can cause incurable damage to his spiritual well-being.
One of the city's prominent rabbonim pointedly said: "One day
of hospitalization can destroy the chinuch of an entire year."
The opening of the pediatrics department in Bnei Brak will help many
Bnei Brak families. From now on, parents won't have to neglect their
other children or leave them alone on Shabbosim in order to sit near
the beds of their hospitalized children. The opening of the pediatrics
department in Bnei Brak will spare parents the anguish of distance
from their other children and enable them to care for them, while
still being accessible to the hospitalized child.
Children decorated the department walls with many beautiful illustrations.
The department, located on the hospital's sixth floor, boasts game
rooms as well as rooms where parents can rest while being near their
children.
A decade has passed since the founding of Ma'ayenei Hayeshua by the
ish chessed, Dr. Moshe Rothschild. Until now, the hospital
included departments of Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Intensive Care,
Surgery, Gynecology, Maternity, Geriatrics and Premature Infants'
Care, as well as an emergency ward. Now, with the opening of the Pediatrics
Department, Dr. Rothschild's full vision has been fulfilled.
