Yeshiva Student Attacked in Bayit Vegan

by Betzalel Kahn

Last Monday, a yeshiva student in the Bayit Vegan neighborhood of Jerusalem was attacked by two youths as he was returning to his yeshiva. This attack is an outcome of the violence and incitement toward chareidim which is gaining widespread momentum among secular youth.

The student, A.Y., was returning to his yeshiva from the local grocery store. On the way, he passed the nearby secular Boyer High School, on Torah ve'Avodah Street. When he neared the school, two youngsters aged 15-16, began to curse him and spit at him. They then grabbed the contents of the bag he had brought from the store and began to spray large quantities of soda all over him. Then the two youngsters began to beat him, while continuing to curse him in a very ugly manner

The student later on told Yated Ne'eman's reporter. "I didn't know what to do. There was no one in sight to help me." He filed a complaint with the police.

This isn't the first time that yeshiva students have been attacked on that street. In the past, the police did not take the matters very seriously, and never found any of the attackers.
