The Pundits "Knew" that Trump was Fed Up with Netanyahu

by Rabbi Yitzchok Roth

3

What didn't they say about the relations between Trump and Netanyahu? Who can even count all the times that the 'savant' newspaper commentators insisted that the American President was fed up with the Israeli head of state?

This is a quote from New York Times analysts from the very mouth of the American president in a talk with Netanyahu: "I am disgusted with your conduct. I did everything to protect yoõ Everyone is equally repulsed by you, Bibi! Everyone hates you but I stood by your side. Even the Jews who toe my line were already sick of you."

The Israeli reporter Barak Ravid, wrote: "Trump feels that Netanyahu abandoned him and betrayed the personal rapport between them after all the dramatic acts which Trump did for Israel's sake."

A Washington Post journalist reporter wrote, "Trump divulged to those close to him that he had reached the awareness that Netanyahu was the real stumbling block to peace in the area, rather than the Palestinians. And I think that Bibi never wanted to make peacå he simply does not want it," was his quote from Trump.

Analyst Ben Caspit, who has devoted his column these past four years to one single subject — attacking Netanyahu — wrote: "Despite the public show of 'best friends,' behind the scenes, Trump and his people have reached the stage where they are disgusted by Netanyahu's zigzags. In the White House, they already understood that Netanyahu promises things at their closed meetings but torpedoes them at the moment he is pressured by his coalition stresses in Jerusalem."

The government analyst Yaron Avraham wrote: "The sentiment in Washington was that Trump was disgusted with everything relating to diplomatic initiatives. In recordings and closed talks which were aired in the public, Trump did not even hide his anger and explicitly said that he feels exploited, and that Netanyahu was dealing with him disloyally."

Not in vain did the top echelons of Israeli politicians, as well as the various media channels, sense that the American president did not intend to mix into Israeli elections and that he didn't even care a whit who won, as was stated in the Israeli media a mere few days ago: "A spokesman on behalf of the Leftist Shinui faction who spoke with the people close to the American president stated on the program 'The News Report' that the president declared publicly in the past that 'he had no intentions to intervene in the Israeli elections."

A different newspaper wrote: 'Trump is in no hurry to rescue Netanyahu.' This was a surprising statement regarding the elections. Columnists noted that Trump's lack of desire to embroil himself in the Likud campaign indicates a discord in the personal relations between the two.

We can continue in this vein and test the veracity of the Israeli press quoting 'people in the know,' who, in the end, don't know a thing. And now, they are hard put to explain how amidst all of the discord in their personal relations, Trump declared very clearly his unequivocal support of Netanyahu as one whom he regards as the only Israeli front-runner with whom he can be a partner in the battle against Iranian nuclear power.
