61,788 Students Opened the School Year in Beit Shemesh

by Yisrael Reisner

Amidst heightened excitement, the new school year of 5786 was launched this past Sunday in Beit Shemesh, as 61,788 students returned to the school desks after the summer vacation. This figure constitutes a peak, after a marathon of preparation which carried on throughout the previous year with the completion of over 200 new classrooms in the city and an investment of billions of shekalim.

The official facts speak for themselves: from the whole sum of students, 4,967 students are commencing first grade, an unparalleled figure, with 87.2% (4,331) attending chareidi institutions. The sum total of chareidi educational institutions figures at 922, into which 3,300 new students are coming from immigrant families.
