The Heritage of the Chareidi Community
by Yitzchok Roth

The renowned writer, R' Moshe Sheinfeld, who received full support from the Torah leaders of his time for his articles in the Niv Hamoreh publication as being suffused with a true Torah outlook, wrote the following for the Kislev 5733 edition: It was titled, "Violence is a Foreign Branch in our Education":
"To the great extent which our Torah-oriented society has invested in creating spiritual walls which would set us apart from the secular errant public, nevertheless, there are breaches in those fortresses which affect the tender saplings of our youth. G-d forbid that we regard them, ostrich-like, and ignore the signs of violence which are infiltrating us and capturing the Jewish youth from the streets. Whoever shrugs away such signs and comforts himself saying, 'Let the youths play before us,' is blinding himself from seeing how terrible will be the ramifications, and how murky will be the waters and wells which these spurt forth.
"In recent months the Torah-true public is suffering from the blows caused by these youths, accompanied by smoke and fire and all the evils that supplement them through their demonstrations, rock throwing and outbursts of violence which are very displeasing to our leaders! Since the establishment of the State, they have taken a very negative stand against unauthorized demonstrations and all the mores against acts of violence. Fires are set in apartment houses where infants, elderly people and perhaps sick people reside. These are not holy fires by far and the incendiaries are the spiritual victims of the frames of mind accepted in this youth generation throughout the world: to solve problems and achieve goals by might at the cost of swords and ruination. This foreign growth has infiltrated our ranks which must be uprooted, but not through agitated policemen, but through the blessed activities of our outstanding educators who will nip the phenomenon of rabid chareidim in the bud."
