There is no limit to the cynicism of Hamas, and this is what the IDF spokesman is attempting to publicize throughout the world.
The headquarters of the military arm of Hamas was located seven or eight meters under the preemie nursery of the European Hospital in Khan Junes. Hamas heads used this nursery of day-old newborns as their human shield. The chief heads of the Hamas military arm felt that they were thus well protected against the IDF. Their secret hideout, in their eyes, was optimal.
They built a network of tunnels directly under the European Hospital, a huge and central hospital in the southern Gaza Strip. The control center of Hamas commanders was situated directly under the hospital's preemie nursery, with the war secrets precisely beneath the hospital surgery rooms at a depth of 7 to 8 meters underground.
The assumption of the Hamas commanders was that the IDF would surely not bomb a central hospital where hundreds of sick and wounded people lay. This assumption was verified from the past year when a major maneuver of the IDF in Khan Junes was prevented from bombing or surrounding the hospital, thus allowing for the headquarters underneath to continue to function as usual, directly beneath the emergency ward, surgery rooms and the nursery. The babies and newborns served as the human shield of the Hamas commanders who were certain they were in the safest quarters in all of Khan Junes.
Indeed, for many long months, those murderers remained in these protected quarters, secure in the knowledge that Israel would not dare bomb the place. Their major mistake was that Israeli army intelligence succeeded in gaining quality information regarding the actual layout of the tunnel system so that the IDF knew exactly where the exits and entries were located.
In a very precise maneuver, they bombed these two sites in a way that these were imploded, destroyed all access from the outside or escape from within. Everyone inside was trapped. This operation was hanging on a hairsbreadth, depending on very precise and accurate bombing since any slight veering could affect the hospital itself and bring publicity calamity upon Israel from heavy world censure.
Tens of tons of bombs landed on the tunnels themselves and thanks to Hashem, not a scratch was caused in the hospital itself. Everything remained safely in place while the extensive tunnel system beneath was destroyed in such a manner that the noxious gases from the explosions remained trapped inside, creating a deadly gaseous expanse. The senior commanders, headed by Muhammad Sinwar, died a slow and suffering death by suffocation.
No one will be surprised if terrorist supporters on the campuses will demand that the U.N. investigate the humanitarian aspects of the deaths of the terrorists through such painful deaths. Indeed, towards the end of this operation, the IDF prevented the rescue of those trapped inside in order to positively ascertain their deaths, as was actually verified when the army actually entered the area and removed the corpses of the victims.
