Rain and Kinneret Watch

by Dei'ah Vedibur Staff

Our weekly report of the rain and the level of the Kineret - 5784.

As of March 7 (27 Adar I) 379.7 millimeters of rain had fallen in the Jerusalem area during the current season (August 1 to date). This is 87% of the average rainfall for this period and 73% of the average rainfall for the entire season in the Jerusalem area which is 522 mm. It rained just a bit this past week.

November was unusually wet this year. The main rain months are December, January and February, but there is still rain in March. Many places have already had a rainy winter that surpassed their average rainfall.

The current level of the Kinneret is -209.69 meters below sea level, which is 0.89 meters below the full red line of -208.8 meters. It rose nicely this past week. There has been talk about possibly opening the Degania Dam. Relatively little water is taken out as the bulk of Israel's drinking water comes from desalination.
