What Made the Gazans Rejoice?

by Yitzchok Roth

3

A clip was publicized this week depicting the Oct. 7th events. It was filmed by Gazan residents themselves. It shows the streets filled with the vehicles of the murderers coming back, loaded with the corpses of Jewish victims. A cortege of thousands Gazans "escorted" the procession with unbridled and unhidden spontaneous joy, reminiscent to our mind of vicious barracudas, known to thirst for human blood.

It shows huge hordes of men, women and children en masse, surrounding the corpses in ecstatic joy, bodies of those who were murdered so brutally and viciously.

We do not harbor the slightest mote of mercy over those millions of Gazans who were uprooted from their homes and relegated to transit camps. They were all partners in the tremendous tunnel project which Hamas built over many years with the very funds which should have gone to transforming Gaza City into a flourishing place. These citizens knowingly and willingly agreed to forego a comfortable life for the sake of the single goal: to utterly destroy Israel.

Hamas openly declares and idealizes this goal as supreme and ultimate and the populace's tacit agreement is not coerced but a chosen fact of life. We can assume that among the two million Gazans, there exists a small percentage of reticent and even opposing citizens. But the overwhelming majority embraces the murderous ideology of Hamas and openly supports it.

Very possibly, had they known that they were likely to lose their homes, property, and the hope of returning to the former peaceful existence, they might have opposed this credo. But the festivities in Gaza did not begin on Oct. 7th but surfaced time and again after every smaller murderous attack on innocent Israeli civilians.

The ironic fact is that a large number of those whose murder is being celebrated, are actually residents of the Otef Gaza settlements which were the actual spearheads of the coexistence ideal. The stories of many of the victims is that of assistance and support accorded to their Arab neighbors.

Many of whom supplied employment to the Arabs. It was those very workers who relayed vital and detailed information to Hamas so that when the time came, they could storm in very efficiently with a maximal blow to the Israeli residents.
