A Horrible Comment

Official Israel is torn between the crimes of the Russian army and the concern about the security needs of Israel. The Russians are ensconced on the northern border of the state where they threaten the freedom of action of Israeli forces against the Iranians who seek to supply the Islamic terror organizations. Therefore the Israeli reaction was measured and weighed carefully.

Nonetheless, in the face of the horrors that are being revealed, the senior members of the government cannot remain silent. Murder is murder is murder. The horrific images from the Ukraine leave no doubt about the war crimes of the Russian army. One after the other, the senior members of the government respond to these developments. No one who is part of the family of civilized people can be silent in the face of these revelations.

All except for one of the senior cabinet ministers, who is an embarrassment for every minute that he serves. Treasury minister Lieberman was quoted in the press as saying, "We have here mutual recriminations. Ukraine accuses Russia and Russia accuses Ukraine." As they say, "The coin has two sides."

This is the type of reaction we get when Hamas sends hundreds of rockets to Israeli population centers with the explicit goal of harming civilians and Israel responds with measure and precise bombardment of the sources of the fire, and the world responds, at best, with a condemnation of both sides, or even lifts an accusing finger at the defenders.

Although he has since walked back his comments, this sort of hapless commentary is typical of the Treasury czar whose greatest expertise is in dismantling governments.
