An Orchard of Ashera Trees Planted by the New Minister of Religions

Opinion by Y Tikoczinski

The new Minister of Religions succeeded establishing himself as the spearhead of Yemina in the battle against chareidim. (Note: Rabbi Gafni claimed that Yemina's main policy goal is to minimize chareidi influence over Israeli life.) He seeks to amend the law of selecting dayanim preventing any chareidi representatives from being part of the committee for appointing dayanim. This has paved the way for Matan Kahane to appoint dayanim and, in the next stage, we expect, to appoint rabbonim as well coming from the Dati-Leumi sector, altogether counter to the Shulchan Oruch and the world of Halacha.

This is part of a goal establishing a world of dayanus and rabbonus which will be able to "bring the Torah to the people" while also being accepted by Lapid and Lieberman who are seeking such puppets which they can regulate by remote control according to their needs. If a rabbis should dare to voice other than what is programmed, the money controllers can simply deactivate their batteries.

They are seeking rabbis who can bow to their wishes and twist to their will, bending the Halacha to fit their scheme, producing 'halachic rulings' for the secular public interested in some sort of rabbinic coverage and supplying a user-friendly Halacha, in the first stage, before providing recognition to cults outside of Judaism. Otherwise, what do they care about chareidi rabbonim? In this issue, Matan Kahane is giving them the first step of their program.

Aside from the declarations of the Religions Minister to wreck the walls of longstanding Kashrus and breach the walls of conversion so as to enable infiltrators to penetrate the body of the Jewish nation, Mattan Kahane portends to be the piper who will succeed in planting an asheira in the orchard of Judaism. "Thou shalt not plant an asheira, any tre?" Said Reish Lakish, "Whoever establishes a dayan who is improper, is considered to have planted an asheira in the midst of Yisroel, as is written, 'Judges and police shall you appoint for yourself.' And following that, the Torah states, 'Thou shalt not place for you an asheira, any tre?'" (Sanhedrin 7b).

What is the reason for the juxtaposition of a proper dayan precisely to an asheira? Because some forms of idolatry are visible to all, while an asheira can seem to be simply a tree, with no hint of the fact that it is being worshiped.

An unsuitable dayan compares to this as well. Outwardly, his true nature is not apparent, for he dons the mantle of a proper dayan, but inwardly, he is tainted, misguided and misleading to the public" (Pninim miShulchan Govoha in the name of HaRav Chaim).
