The Health Ministry Will Quarantine Anyone Arriving in Israel from the East

By Y. Arieli

So far there are no reported cases of the Covid-19 virus in Israel. To preventa any outbreak, the Health Ministry is prepared to enforce a quarantine upon those returning from the East. To this end, supervisors will begin to make surprise visits to those travelers. Simultaneously, people from the Ministry will assist the neighbors of those travelers to inform on them by telephone in the event that they don't adhere to the guidelines established.

This procedure follows warning phone calls which part of those people have already received in the past few days in the event that travelers who have returned from eastern countries do not abide by the quarantine. They may possibly be blamed by the clause of spreading a disease willfully or through negligence, an offense which can result in arrest of from 3 to 7 years.

The Ministry noted that whoever does not abide by the quarantine may be imprisoned. It also stressed that the preference at this stage is for people not to travel to Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau in addition to China. The Ministry is also prepared for the possibility that the virus will still be found in 2021, but stressed that they are geared to deal with thousands of victims in Israel [chv'sh].

The Thailand consulate in Tel Aviv called upon its citizens not to visit Israel, due to the directives or the quarantine received from the Health Ministry in Jerusalem to be imposed on whoever arrives from Bangkok that they be sent to a two week quarantine. Earlier yesterday, the Population Administration forbade the entry of agricultural workers from Thailand to the country for fear of the spreading of the virus.
