Law Guaranteeing Chareidi Employment in Israeli Government

By Eliezer Rauchberger

Finally, after twenty years of failed attempts, the Knesset plenum approved this past Monday in its second and third readings the bill presented by Rabbis Moshe Gafni and Uri Maklev to guarantee appropriate representation of the chareidi sector seeking employment in government offices and companies.

35 MKs voted in support with no opposing votes. Three MKs abstained. The law is supposed to ensure that chareidim will be hired by government agencies when they are qualified.
