International Medical Halachic Hotline: HRB

By Y. Shain

Following several months of blessed activity in Israel by the HRB, the international medical halachic hotline, the organization's administration realized the need to also establish a similar service outside of Israel. The thousands of halachic questions flowing into the headquarters, spanning the world's continents, and the huge wave of questions coming from across the sea, have caused the organization to take stock, and after seeking counsel with the guiding figure in Israel, HaRav Moshe Shaul Klein, it has been decided to expand this service to the U.S. as well.

The chairman of the HRB headquarters, HaRav Yisrael Pinchas Turnauer, went to the U.S. to visit HaRav Yechiel Michel Steinmetz, halachic head of the Square community in Boro Park, known to be the expert figure in everything pertaining to medical issues, asking him to join the organization's presidium. HaRav Steinmetz examined the request in depth and agreed to join the administrative members in Eretz Yisrael, namely, HaRav Yitzchok Zilberstein, HaRav Naftali Nussbaum and HaRav Yisrael Yitzchok Mendelsohn.

During their discussion, HaRav Turnauer addressed HaRav Yechiel Michel Steinmetz, voicing the organization's desire to expand the HRB activities as the international halachic resolution so as to include the U.S. as well. HaRav Steinmetz inquired about the scope of questions daily coming in from the U.S. and of their nature. After receiving a detailed assessment, he suggested, as per their request, to expand the organization's activities to include the U.S. It was subsequently decided that at this stage, questions from all over the world be directed to the international headquarters whose number is: +972 250 20202.
