New Liberal Conversion Policy in Zahal by the Defense Minister

Army Bldg

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has allocated seventeen million shekel for a preparatory course of Netiv for army conversion candidates as part of the base budget from the Defense Ministry. This will allow for the expansion of so-called conversions in the Israeli army, against which gedolei Yisrael have come out in full severity.

A Selection of Thoughts and Practical Guidance for Aseres Yemei Teshuvoh from HaRav Shach, zt'l

But it's not enough just to think vaguely about repentance. A person needs to pick a particular area that needs improvement. Everyone knows his own shortcomings. [For example,] everyone understands how important prayer is yet our prayers are not what they ought to be. Chazal (Brochos 6) tell us that the posuk in Tehillim (12:9) speaks about "sublime matters that people are careless with" [which Rashi explains is a reference to prayer]. Everyone should thus be very careful to pray properly.

The Akeidoh

Fiction for Rosh Hashonoh

"Like a bird, like a beautiful bird that got caught in the hunter's grasp for the first time. A stunning bird with shining feathers, a songbird. It was the first time that the hunter ever held a bird. He had never before caught one in his hand and felt its pulse. Nor had he ever seen a bird up close and had the opportunity to behold such beautiful wings. The bird was breathtakingly beautiful. Its plumage was comprised of the most gorgeous of colors . . . Oy! It was a rare songbird, the likes of which he had never seen.

Why Study Half-True Science When You Can Learn True Torah?

by Mordecai Plaut

C. Sidney Burwell, the dean of Harvard Medical School from 1935 to 1949, is reported to have told his students, "Half of what you are taught as medical students will in ten years have been shown to be wrong, and the trouble is, none of your teachers knows which half." This is no less true in our days of all science, as a short survey of scientific mistakes and revisions that were reported just in the past two months shows.
