Stop Desecration of the Old City

By Yechiel Sever

Members of the United Torah Jewry party in the Jerusalem municipality met on Sunday for an emergency discussion on steps to be taken urgently and immediately in order to halt the abhorrent and indecent performances taking place these day in the Old City en route to the remnant of our holy Beis Hamikdash, the Kosel Hamaaravi.

As was reported in Yated Ne'eman last week, the rabbonim of the Old City appealed to the Jerusalem mayor, Nir Barakat, to call a halt to the severe travesty of indecent exhibits on the way to the Kosel, along a route traversed by thousands of chareidi Jews - men, women and children. They demanded that he stop these performances immediately, stressing that this represented "a desecration of our holy and glorious city, which has become abused and shamed through the studied direction of Jews to [visit] the sites of idolatry and the alleys leading to them." They were referring to "various strange and ugly performances and public street revelry filled with unbelievable decadence and disgust which we are loathe to describe further and which cause spiritual damage to our souls and the souls of our children."
